SpiceJet set to run 40% more flights this summer

Crisis-ridden budget carrier SpiceJet, hopeful of fund infusion from investors led by its former director and co-founder Ajay Singh, is likely to increase its flights by 40 per cent to a total of 280 in the coming summer schedule.

The airline had last week announced resumption of bookings for the summer schedule that starts from March 29 and runs till October 24.

The announcement came after aviation regulator directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) lifted restrictions on advance booking by SpiceJet.

Following initial approval to its revival plan by the nodal civil aviation ministry, SpiceJet is awaiting clearance from market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for a transfer of ownership without having to make a mandatory open offer to minority shareholders.
