Near Air Collision Averted at Airport

Chennai: An air collision was averted at Chennai airport as a Bahrain-bound Air India flight was preparing to take off on the runway when an incoming Indigo plane is believed to have received a go ahead to land from Air Traffic Control, according to a well-placed airline source. Before there was any danger of collision, the pilot of the incoming aircraft was asked to go round the airport’s airspace, and the AI flight was directed to take off.

Indigo officials declined to talk about the incident believed to have occurred between 7.45 pm and 8 pm, but they did have to prepare for two incoming flights from Kolkata and Bangalore during that time frame.  Incidentally, both planes were delayed by 30-40 minutes on Thursday evening.
