Air India flight diverted due to storm

NEW DELHI: An Air India flight coming from Bengaluru was diverted to Lucknow after a thunderstorm hit Delhi on Saturday evening.

"After hovering over Delhi for a while, the pilot announced that the aircraft was running low on fuel and had to be flown to Lucknow," said a passenger flight 503. The diversion led to many passengers missing connecting flights.

Airport sources said this was the only flight to be diverted and all other flights managed to land at IGI during the storm between 7pm and 8pm, which is the peak arrival time for domestic flights.

While Air India did not comment, a senior official said, "Winds were blowing at almost 41kmph. There was congestion at IGI because of which the flight had to hover for quite long. The aircraft reached its diversion fuel level so it had to be taken to Lucknow."
