No eateries, meat shops in vicinity of airport

No eateries and meat shops will be allowed within one kilometre radius of the Gannavaram airport. This instruction was issued by Krishna Collector Babu A. at the environmental committee meeting convened by Airports Authority of India (AAI) at the airport on Friday.

The decision came in the wake of a bird hit that occurred at the airport when an Air Costa flight was taking off on Wednesday evening, causing panic among passengers. Apart from Mr. Babu, Airport Director M. Rajkishore, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation G. Veerapandian, Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan and representatives from airline operators were present at the meeting.

Mr. Rajkishore said that birds were flocking at the airport due to dumping of garbage and waste generated by meat shops around the airfield.
