Rajkot woman held with 1kg gold at international airport

Ahmedabad: The air intelligence unit (AIU) of the Customs department arrested a Rajkot-based woman for smuggling 1kg gold worth Rs 26.6 lakh early Sunday morning at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport.

The 33-year-old woman was held with two gold bars hidden in her garments. This is the second incident of smuggling in 2015 where a woman has been held with gold at airport.

The woman had arrived from Air Arabia's G9-483 flight from Sharjah. "She is a first time offender. Earlier, she denied carrying gold but when she was frisked, two gold bars were recovered from the inner pockets of her leggings. She had brought the gold for commercial purpose," said a Customs official.
