Rajkot woman held with 1kg gold

Ahmedabad: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs department held a Rajkot-based woman for smuggling 1kg gold worth Rs 26.6 lakh on early Sunday morning at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The 33-year-old woman was nabbed with two gold bars hidden in her garments. This is the second incident of smuggling this year where a woman has been held with gold at the airport.

The woman had arrived from Air Arabia's flight from Sharjah. "She is a first time offender. She denied carrying gold but when frisked, two gold bars were recovered from the inner pockets of her leggings. She had brought the gold for commercial purpose. One gold-bar was 487.700 gram with a mark of Al-Etihad Gold Dubai and another of 512.300 gram with a mark described on it as 'Gold 999.9 Melter Assayer," said a Customs official.
