Air Force Aircraft Ferries Liver, Kidney From Pune To Delhi

The Indian Air Force (IAF) recently put one of its aircrafts, an Embraer, on a unique mission—to transport a kidney and liver from Pune to New Delhi.

The organs were used to save the lives of two seriously ill patients suffering from kidney failure. Post-surgery, both the patients are recuperating well, said the hospital doctors.

“The IAF transported the organs in one hour and 30 minutes flat to Delhi from Pune, while a commercial flight takes more than two hours to do the same,” said Colonel PP Rao, head of liver transplantation unit, Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi.

The plane landed in Delhi with the organs at 1.30 am and “we started the surgery once the organs arrived at the hospital”, Colonel Rao added.
