Mumbai: At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Kharagpur, a group of students is working on technology that may help power micro-aerial vehicles (MAVs) or mini-drones for Boeing.
These are deployed in hazardous environments not accessible to ground vehicles and often used for aerial photography.
At the aerospace department in IIT-Bombay, PhD students and teachers are working to make it easier for pilots to see through the acrylic canopies of the fighter jets made by Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL). The company sought their help because the transparency of the material wasn't up to global standards.
Neither institute was willing to expand on details of the projects they were working on or the specific aircraft type.
Global and Indian aerospace firms are increasingly seeking out technical expertise at India's premier engineering schools.
