FlightCar’s New App Aims to Improve Airport Parking Experience

San Francisco, Calif.-based peer-to-peer car sharing company FlightCar announced July 15 it had launched a mobile app to “revolutionize airport parking.”
The company’s co-founder and CEO, Indian American Rujul Zaparde, said in a statement the mobile app was launched to “dramatically improve our pickup experience and provide a level of transparency that doesn’t exist in the airport car rental space today.”
FlightCar currently serves airports at 14 cities, including all three San Francisco Bay Area airports, Los Angeles, Boston, Seattle and Denver, among others. Zaparde told India-West there will be “more FlightCar launches in the coming months,” but wouldn’t specify the cities.
Zaparde, 20, a New York native, was one of an extensive Indian American contingent honored in Forbes’ list of “30 Under 30” in 20 categories (I-W, Feb. 12, 2015). After finishing prep school, he enrolled at Harvard University but elected to drop out and pursue FlightCar, which was founded in 2012.
“FlightCar is for the leisure traveler who's visiting a city and will be driving around town,” Zaparde explained to India-West.
Zaparde and co-founder Kevin Petrovic “stumbled upon the idea” after the Indian American came across Airbnb, a company for people to rent out lodging, in early 2012. Shortly after that, FlightCar was born.
