Goa customs foil gold smuggling bid

Panaji: The air intelligence wing of the commissionerate of customs in Goa on Friday found three persons smuggling 3.5kg of gold worth 90 lakh. The trio was travelling to Bengaluru, on a Dubai-Bengaluru flight via Goa. The passengers were detained after landing in Bengaluru.

Commissioner of customs, Goa, K Anpazhakan said that the three passengers boarded the flight in Dubai and were travelling to Bengaluru. When the flight landed at Goa international airport, Dabolim, at around 4.16am on Friday, the three passengers were found in possession of gold during a random search by customs officers. The gold was in form of biscuits and gold ornaments, he said.

"The passengers were not entitled to bring the gold as they had not paid the duty to do so," Anpazhakan said.
