KIAL Hopeful of Trial Run by December

Kannur: Though heavy rain with the onset of monsoon has delayed developmental works at Kannur Airport, there is no apprehension in the minds of officials that regarding the completion of runway work by December. “We were able to complete just 57 per cent of the run way, but there is hope for a trial run by December,” G Chandramouli, managing director, Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) told Express, during his visit to Kannur for administering ongoing work, on Thursday.

He admitted there is a slight delay in carrying out the runway work and it has taken a setback due to the heavy rains, which have made things difficult to move forward as proposed. But if the monsoon recedes by September, it may not be difficult to carry out the first landing trial at the new airport, as previously planned by December 31, he said. He was optimistic that by the mid of next year, flight operations would begin here.
