Land purchase sanctioned for airport at Bareilly

Lucknow: Even as the fate of the proposed Jewar airport in Greater Noida hangs in balance, the UP government has given a fresh boost to construction of an airport facility at Bareilly, the strategic doorway to politically crucial West UP. The department of civil aviation has sanctioned over Rs 53 crore for purchasing land near the existing air force station to pave way for a civil conclave that could essentially be used like a terminal building once domestic air carriers start operations. Sources in the civil aviation department said that around 10 hectares of land would soon be purchased in Gram Murdiya Ahmednagar near the air force station. Officials said that the land would be acquired for the facility on the basis of mutual agreement with the land owners. The state government has estimated different compensation for different plots which would be pieced together to form a larger site for a civil conclave.
