The possible wreckage of the Malaysian Airlines flight, MH370, washing up on the shores of the remote Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean has brought little respite to the family of Prahlad Shirsath, whose wife Kranti Shirsath was on the ill-fated plane that went missing on March 8, 2014. The family was torn apart after the tragedy 16 months ago. While Shirsath’s elder son, Rahul, now lives in an engineering college hostel in the city, his younger son was admitted to a school hostel in Sangamner, Ahmednagar. Prahlad took up his previous job with the NGO Concern Worldwide after a gap of almost one year and is presently on an assignment in Nepal. “Last year, I was in Class 12 and papa helped me with my studies and my dream to get admission into an engineering college. Once I got admission, I decided to stay in the college hostel. Kabir was sent to a boarding school. Papa rejoined Concern Worldwide,” said Rahul Shirsath. Talking about his father, Rahul said that Prahlad’s decision to rejoin his work was more to do with his mother’s absence than money. “Mom’s absence can be felt everywhere in the house and in everything we do. It was very hard for dad as he looked after the house and us throughout last year. He used to be alone at home when we went to school and hence it was hard for him. That is why he decided to join the NGO and work among people who need his help. He is on a short assignment in Nepal, helping the people there and that keeps him busy,’’ said Rahul.
