New Delhi: Uncertainty looms large over the upcoming Metro station at Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in the Capital, with the Civil Aviation Ministry planning to close passenger services at the domestic terminal.
Shifting of domestic flight operations from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 will render the upcoming Metro station useless while the existing Aerocity station on the Airport Express Metro could also meet a similar fate.
Sources in the Urban Development Ministry said the move may force the Delhi Metro to suspend passenger services at the two stations as it could lead to a huge reduction in footfall.
As per the plan, the Central government wants to convert Terminal 1 into cargo terminal and shift all low-cost carriers to Terminal 3. Once shifted, there will be no passenger footfall at Terminal 1 station, thus depriving the new Metro station of passengers.
