No More Premium Parking at Airport

CHENNAI: This could be either bitter or sweet news for you depending on where you park your car while at the city airport. Doing away with the concept of a separate premium parking space, parking contractor Garuda Aviation has docked the prices for all parking to Rs 150.

The only catch — normal parking, which used to cost Rs 135 for four hours now costs Rs 150 for half the time viz - two hours. “We have done away with the premium and normal parking and made it a single rate because the slots are not quite well defined. With the Metro work going on there is constant realignment of the parking lots and so we have made this move,” said an official of the company.

After Garuda picked up the parking contract from Airports Authority of India (AAI)  four years ago,  they have been operating tollbooths and electronic parking systems at the airport. The cost started at Rs 120 and then was hiked to Rs 135 and now stands at Rs 150. A revision in the rates was supposed to be done earlier this year but was deferred because of contractual extensions and other constraints.
