Kochi: A 30-year-old woman was abducted from the airport premises at Nedumbaserry in cinema style upon her arrival from the US after the family members of the girl resisted the marriage proposal of her alleged old boyfriend.
However, the airport police arrested three members of the gang that abducted her, including the alleged ex-boyfriend, from Palakkad and returned the woman to her parents as per her wish.
According to police, the entire drama unfolded from Sunday 10.30 pm onwards. When the woman landed at the airport on an Air India flight from the US via New Delhi, she was picked up by her family members and proceeded to their ancestral home at Mallapally in Pathanamthitta.
When the car carrying the woman reached the Cochin International Airport golf club, the five-member gang intercepted her vehicle and pulled out the woman into another car parked on the roadside, police said.
Later, the car sped to Thrissur side and when it reached Athnai junction on NH 47, the abductors moved to another car in order to avoid being caught or chased by police.
From there it headed to Chalakkudy, where Martin, the alleged boyfriend, and Anju shifted to another Karanataka-registered taxi car and proceeded to Tamil Nadu via Palakkad.
The taxi driver, Shinz, who became suspicious, foiled the gang by stopping the car at various points in the national highway for the benefit of police.
