Coimbatore International Airport to get new terminal building

Coimbatore:  The Coimbatore International Airport may get a swanky new terminal building. The building, which has been planned by the airport authorities as part of the expansion blueprint, is likely to come up by utilizing the space in the adjoining residential colony. Authorities plan to convert the cluster staff housing into eight-storey apartments, leaving adequate space for construction of a new building.

The move comes after the state government communicated to airport authorities that land acquired would be required only for the runway expansion and not for the terminal building. "The new building will be up and running within the next four to five years," said airport director, G Prakash Reddy. "The initial blue print of the expanded airport included for a new building to be built on the other side of the runway, but since the state government has said that they will not acquire land for the building, we have come up with an alternative," said the director.
