MTDC jumps into copter tourism, organises 1st ride

Mumbai: With helicopter tourism being the emerging new market in Mumbai, Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) does not want to be left behind in the race.
MTDC, along with Girisons Airways, has jumped into the fray with Sunday having been the first day when a total four rides were organised with three passengers per ride.
The ride lasted 15 minutes, starting from Juhu Airport and flying north over Madh, Marve, National Park and Gorai. Each ride costs Rs 3,939 excluding taxes, which was far cheaper than joy rides offered by private non-scheduled chopper companies that usually charged Rs 6,500 per person for 15 minutes.
An officer from MTDC told The Asian Age that booking had already been done for the next four Sundays. “Initially, Mumbai scenic tours are being introduced and it will be followed by helicopter tours to Elephanta Island, Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves and later also to Shirdi,” he said.
